In other news, the REIQ’s Quarterly Market Report, covering the December 2016 quarter has just been published and below is a snapshot of some of the data:

  • The Sunshine Coast housing market was the top performing market in Queensland in 2016;
  • The annual median house price grew 6% to $530,000 in the December quarter;
  • The unit market price grew by 4% to $390,000 over the 12 months to December;

The growth is attributed to strong confidence in this region by local vendors and buyers, as well as strong interest from interstate investors.  A reduction in stock levels and listings in 2016 has impacted on the market dynamics, creating a vendor’s market, the REIQ reports.  It concludes that “the economic fundamentals supporting the property market in the Sunshine Coast are solid and supported by infrastructure and development projects in the region.  The outlook for the residential market in 2017 is positive.”
