AWP sales agent, Daniel Mendes is swapping his regular suit for a Lycra one this week, as he sets off on a 1,200 kilometre ride for charity, to support 1200kms for kids. The ride will see all proceeds raised go to the Children’s Hospital and Humpty Dumpty foundations for much needed, life-saving medical research and equipment.
The group of riders left Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital on Monday, October 15. Soldiering on through rain and shine, the group has already passed through Coolangatta, Lismore and Killarney, and they will be stopping in Toowoomba tonight. From Toowoomba, the group will continue on to Nambour tomorrow, before returning to the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital on Saturday, October 20.
In 2005, two friends, Gary Richardson and Trevelyan Bale, were looking for a way to give back to the hospitals that had helped their own sick children, and over a beer (or two) they devised a plan – form a group and cycle 1,200 kms in seven days, raising as much money as they could along the way.
The pair decided that funds raised would go to Humpty Dumpty Foundation and the Royal Children’s Hospital Brisbane. To date the initiative has raised over $1.7 million!
Daniel said that he knows that the work they (Children’s Hospital Foundation and Humpty Dumpty) do is important, and the funds are much needed.
“I want to do as much as I can to help… but there is only so much I can do on my own”.
