On a quiet street corner in Buderim, you’ll find one of the latest community givings… They’re something that are beginning to pop up everywhere, – the humble street library. Essentially a mini collection where people are encouraged to take, share and give books — it’s free and there are no borrowing cards or late fees. The street library concept began overseas but has now spread worldwide!
Jess and Joey Ruskin along with Street Library invite you to share the joys of reading with them and your neighbours to create a sense of community. They believe that Street Libraries are a beautiful home for books, planted in a front yard. In their case the Buderim Street Library they have generously set up is positioned at the school end of Elizabeth Street.
The concept of Street Libraries is simple. No-one needs to check them in or out. People can simply reach in and take what interests them; when they are done, they can return them to the Street Library network, or pass them on to friends.
If anyone has a book or two that they think others would enjoy, they can just pop it into the Street Library. A Street Library is a symbol of trust, hope and fun!
