The world is facing troublesome times right now, and throughout these times, we need to remember to do our best to keep ourselves, and those around us as safe as possible. As so, a great number of the population will be seeing themselves spending more time at home than in the past.
During a time where we are spending most of our time indoors, we think taking care of a plan (or two) could be a nice extra past time. But plants offer a range of positive health benefits and can be valuable for us during this period in our lives.
Highly Rewarding
Taking care of a plant during these times could afford a fulfilling experience, and add to our task list for the day to help solidify our new routines. If you are yet to convert to the plant-a-holic status, take a look around your home to see if there are any seedlings about. Maybe there are some seeds in your garage from when you thought you’d create a veggie patch a few years ago, or perhaps you still have some unused Woolies Discovery Garden boxes from a few months back, sitting on top of your fridge? What better time to get your thumbs green than right now?
Breath Cleaner
The Clean Air Study conducted by NASA in 1989 revealed that many common houseplants were able to filter our chemicals in the air around them. The ever-popular Peace Lily was one of the plants found to filter out five different chemicals, but lots of other plants were also found to be good at filtering out a variety of chemicals too. Great news for those living in smaller spaces such a a unit without a balcony, or if a member in your household has allergies, smokes or just wants to breathe fresher, cleaner air in their homes, then indoor plants are a great addition.
Increased Productivity
If you are finding yourself adjusting to working from home, you might be adjusting to the new set of distractions that can come with working from your own space (that furry four-legged friend wanting to play or Netflix – we’re looking at you!). A UK study found that bringing greenery into a workspace could improve productivity by 15 percent! So, that plant sitting on your home office desk might be helping you get some work done!
One of the biggest priorities for everyone personally right now is remembering to take care of our health and well-being, all while doing our best to protect others. Taking care of a plant or two could help to make this time of our lives a little easier, for a multitude of reasons.
Stay safe, everyone.
