With the school holidays fast approaching, what better time to remind ourselves of the best free activities to do on the Sunshine Coast. Better yet, ways to keep the kids amused without the expense!
Kondalilla National Park
During the summer/wet season, the national park is known for its spectacular waterfalls. You can enjoy beautiful forest walks and tropical beauty throughout the winter months. Not far down the road is the gorgeous little hinterland town, Montville. This charming little town has many unique shops and is a great spot to stop for lunch. Buderim Township & Falls Walk
Buderim is a village-like township nestled on the plateau only a few kilometres from Mooloolaba. It has an array of cafes and beautiful views from the many parks along the plateau ridge. Also located near the heart of town are the Buderim falls. The falls, set within a 45-hectare reserve owned by the council, offers an easy walk meandering through the tropical forest. There are two different entry points for the walk to the falls. One, off Lindsay Road via Harrys Lane and the other is Quorn Close off Lindsay Road at the top of Buderim. Once you reach the waterfalls, you won’t be disappointed. For more information on Buderim Falls, please see the link https://www.buderim.com/buderim-forest
Beaches
Given our warm winter climate, you can’t go past the pristine beaches of the Sunshine Coast. While beaches are notoriously busier over the school holidays, if you venture beyond some of the more famed stretches of sand, you’ll easily find some space to yourself. If the water’s too cold for you, set up a game of beach cricket or just soak up the beautiful Queensland winter sun. Point Cartwright
A beautiful spot for short walks to the lighthouse and plenty of space for kids to ride their bikes. Over winter, you might spot a whale or dolphin from the lookout, or simply stop for a picnic on the grass and take in the views that stretch all the way down to Moffat Beach. Being on the river entrance, it’s also a great spot to watch the boats coming in and out of Mooloolaba.
