As we approach our national day of celebration, Australia Day, it is always a poignant time to reflect on what it means to be an Australian. What is it about Australia that shapes us and makes us the unique people that we are?
Our colourful history, the vastness and diversity of our nation, our passion for the great outdoors, our fierce pride in our sporting heroes, our sense of ‘a fair go’ for all, our general exuberance and zest for life, our kaleidoscope of cultures…this is Australia, and living here is a privilege.
It has been wonderful to see, over the past decade or so, the increased effort to mark Australia Day as a great civic occasion which brings the community together. Here on the Sunshine Coast there are many public events – picnics in the parks, street parties, family BBQs and of course the great Havaiana Australia Day Thong Challenge will be happening at Mooloolaba beach.
Australia Day is a day to celebrate and unite, to relax and reflect…whatever way you choose to acknowledge it, enjoy!
