There’s never been a better time to make a list of what renovation jobs you want to take on at home. New Year, new and improved home, right?
While it may be daunting strapping on a tool belt and forgoing eight hours straight watching the newest series to be released on Netflix, there are a few ‘easy to tackle’ projects you can tick off the list.
- Paint
A fresh coat of paint has the power to completely transform a room. Being the highest rate of ‘value add’ per dollar spent, when looking to freshen up space, this should be your number one point of call.
Start with your colour palette based on the 60/30/10 rule. 60% of your space should be one primary tone (nothing too offensive). 30% of your surfaces could be a secondary tone and the remaining 10% an accent/feature.
- Splashback
Break down the seemingly big tasks into simple steps. Something like re-tiling a splashback in the kitchen or laundry can be an easy job. Carefully remove and old tiles with a hammer and wide chisel, being careful around GPO’s and switches. Take your time gluing the new tiles on.
There’s something about clean new grout in a kitchen that just screams fresh.
- Deck
If your deck is dry and covered in splinters, it may be time to freshen up. There are a few ways to tackle this – you can simply re-oil a dried-out deck, replace the timber board or you could plane and sand the existing timber.
Either way, some TLC thrown towards your entertaining deck will pay off when the party season kicks-off.
- Feature Wall
Arming yourself with a circular saw, nail gun or impact driver and a bit of creativity and dirty hands can see you whip up a beautiful timber backdrop worthy of any Instagram feature.
Spotted gum, Tassie oak, Victorian ash or even a blackbutt feature wall can lift a space and bring heaps of warmth and character to a room.
