The Race Is On This Weekend!

The Sunshine Coast is once again in the national and international spotlight, as we host the Va’a World Sprints, which commenced last Thursday and finishes on Sunday May 15.  With 35 invited countries, around 4,000 competitors and thousands of spectators, this event brings the world paddling community and the excitement of the world’s fastest outrigger canoe sprint racing to Kawana.

The Va’a World Sprints 2016 showcase the world’s fastest Va’a (outrigger canoe) paddlers with 1 person (V1), 6 person (V6) and 12 person (V12) events. Divisions range from 16 years to over 70 years with a Para division for adaptive paddlers. For the first time the 2016 Va’a World Sprints will also include an Elite Championship showcasing paddlers at the pinnacle of Va’a sprint racing.  Spectators have free access to all events and activities, so come along to Lake Kawana and show your support!
