Tips For Moving Day

Moving,  like it or not, is part of the process when buying and selling homes, a day we all know can be quite stressful.  A checklist can often be the saving grace when it comes to moving day. You have more things to do than you can remember, so it’s a good idea to have a list and you can check things off one at a time.

We have compiled a list of tips to remember for moving day, so you don’t get caught out and everything runs as smoothly as possible.

  1. Write a checklist of all the things you need to disconnect & change over to your new address.
  • Water
  • Power
  • Internet
  • Insurances
  • Update your address with schools, work
  • Get your mail diverted
  • Update all your subscription

A good way to identify these is to go through your bank account and look at the bills and direct debits you’ve from the months leading up to the move.

2. As you are packing, it is always a good idea to do an inventory list. Then on moving day when you get to your new home, you can check your list to make sure nothing has been overlooked or forgotten. And, don’t forget to label boxes clearly on multiple sides, using the room names on your new floor plan (see tip 4)

3. Before you leave, walk through your home one last time to make sure everything has been taken. Also making sure all windows are closed, Power is off, and all doors are locked.

  1. When your things arrive at your new home, If you can, it is a great idea to print out a floor plan and stick it near the front door—marking up the rooms to let people know where boxes need to be placed.  This can save time and double handing if boxes are placed in the correct rooms first off.

  1. Make sure you pack an emergency box and place it in your car. It can contain tea, coffee, a kettle, maybe a few snacks, first aid or anything that will help keep your energy up for the day and give you a chance for a well-needed break.

  1. Last of all remember it is not a race and you can unpack and style your new home at your own pace. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Moving doesn’t need to be stressful if you are organised and have a checklist and a plan.
